Arizona Sunset

I've just returned home from a whirlwind three weeks away in Arizona and Los Angeles. The shop celebrated it's 2nd anniversary and I had the pleasure of working on a variety of promotional photoshoots for our soon to come new webshop. Not much else to say at the moment as I'm still completely knocked out by a red eye flight home!

BOW TIE

The latest from The Loved One, a bow tie we've cut from a variety of vintage rayon and silk fabrics. One step closer to my Libertine dream outfit.

Things with TLO have been pretty slow moving this year but we're gearing up for some new and exciting changes including a total renovation of our online shop. We're currently on the hunt for an LA based photographer to work and grow with. If wearing, shooting and playing with vintage clothing is something you'd be interested in send me a quick introductory email to info@thelovedone.net! We're fun bosses (even though I only get to boss you around from afar) and you will be filled with so much boozy punch and snacks!

Sylvie

If I had access to a magic time travelling phonebooth that would allow me to exchange wardrobes, hairstyles, make-up and teeth with a person of my choice I would... not be able to pick just one person! But on that great big list of figures past (who, in this case, are figures present too) Sylvie Vartan would be very near the top!

I nabbed all of these from a wonderful Sylvie Vartan themed tumblr, here. Read about Sylvie here and listen to Sylvie here!

So badly I need this catsuit.

tea with Bobo

Queen Bobo

We've been pretty neglectful of our camera collection since the new year began. Landon is busy daily in studio and I've split my days procrastinating by cleaning every closet, cupboard and nook and cranny in the house and working on the new collection. These are the handful of shots we've managed to squeak out with our Contax over the past few months. Scenes from around the house and the neighbourhood.

The Lady of Shalott

Sidney Harold Meteyard

JW Waterhouse
37   There she weaves by night and day
38   A magic web with colours gay.
39   She has heard a whisper say,
40   A curse is on her if she stay
41       To look down to Camelot.
42   She knows not what the curse may be,
43   And so she weaveth steadily,
44   And little other care hath she,
45       The Lady of Shalott.

- Tennyson, 1842

My love of The Lady of Shalott began shortly after my love affair with Anne of Green Gables did. In kindergarten I implored classmates to push me while I lay flat on wheeled milk crates, hands crossed over my chest, reciting what slivers of the poem I could remember from Kevin Sullivan's perfection of a miniseries. In middle school I covered my room with Pre-Raphaelite paintings, my favourite always the Waterhouse depiction of doomed Elaine. Even now, you will scarcely find me more animated than when I open my mouth to speak of the romantic poets, authors and painters of the past. Reading this poem still fills my mind's eye with that wonderful untouchable world that once existed so vividly in my imagination and inexplicably is able to move me to tears (which, is a welcome change from my overly stoic disposition. Nice to know I have a bit of water in me, even if it is a horrible bit of Victorian sentimentality). It's perfectly fitting then, as I'm working on my first collection under my own name, to find inspiration in this early love of mine. How this bit of inspiration will manifest in these first designs, well, you will have to wait and see, hehe.
